The Best of Lutheran Laughs

Martin Luther taught that we sin daily and sin much, but
we still struggle with living with the sinful nature. Here's one take
on it heard on the radio:
A man was always asking his pastor how he could have
complete victory over sin, but was frustrated because his pastor always
gave him what he considered long, drawn-out answers. Being a practical
businessman, he wanted a quick answer with an accompanying set of
action items in bullet-point format that he could follow to achieve the
exact result desired. After all, he stopped reading C.S. Lewis' Mere
Christianity because it had too many pages, didn't have any
graphs or charts, and the author talked in a funny accent.
One day he called his pastor at home and shared his
frustrations. "Pastor, you know I want to have complete victory over
sin, but every time I ask you about it, you give me all these long,
drawn-out answers. Now I'm going to ask you one more time, and I want a
short answer -- none of this intellectual stuff. What can I do now to
have complete victory over sin so that I never fall into it again?"
The pastor paused to think for a moment, then gave his
parishoner the short answer he demanded.
"Die," he answered. "Goodbye." And he hung up.
